No. 7 West Chester Takes Down Edinboro, 17-6

WEST CHESTER, Pa. - Ashley Pyle (Springfield, Pa./Garnet Valley) and Erin Eckert (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) each scored four goals while Hannah Cowan (Wilmington, Del./Ursuline Academy) added three to lead seventh-ranked West Chester University to a 17-6 victory over visiting Edinboro in the regular-season finale at Vonnie Gros Field Saturday afternoon.

West Chester (16-1, 11-1 PSAC) earns a share of the PSAC regular-season title, along with Mercyhurst (15-2, 11-1) and receives a bye into the conference semifinals of the PSAC Tournament. West Chester will be the No. 2 seed and travel to Erie, Pa., for the conference playoffs on Friday, May 6. Edinboro (7-10, 2-10) saw its season come to an end on Saturday.

Eckert started the scoring early with a goal 1:23 into the contest. She picked up her 100th career goal early in the second half when she finished off a hat trick on the day.

The Golden Rams scored the first seven goals of the contest to jump on top of the Fighting Scots early. Cowan scored back-to-back goals to fuel the spurt while Dina Cifelli (Robbinsville, N.J./Notre Dame) and Olivia Martin Havertown, Pa./Haverford) added a pair of assists. Cifelli finished with four assists while Martin scored two goals and added three assists for five points.

Paige Mitros (Glen Mills, Pa./Garnet Valley) registered five saves in goal to improve to 16-1 on the year in the cage for West Chester.

West Chester will get the winner of the No. 3 seed vs. No. 6 seed quarterfinal round matchup. Indiana (Pa.) (12-5, 10-2) is the third seed in the postseason tournament and will host that quarterfinal matchup. The six-seed is yet to be determined on the final day of the regular season this coming Wednesday.
