West Chester Lands Six Players on Don Hansen FB Gazette Super Region One Team

2016 Don Hansen FB Gazette All-Super Region 1 Team

CLARION, Pa. – West Chester University was well represented on the 2016 Don Hansen FB Gazette All-Super Region One squad with six selections to this year's team.
 
Among those six were So. OT Tyler Drob (Cherry Hill, NJ/ Cherry Hill East), Jr. RB Jarel Elder (Allentown, PA/Parkland), Sr. OT Doug Gilbert (Mount Laurel, NJ/Lenape), Jr. DT Josh Ganzelli (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown East), Sr. Safety Kevin Malone (Philadelphia, PA/West Catholic) and So. Safety Nydair Rouse (Philadelphia, PA/Simon Gratz).
 
Elder was a 1,000-yard rusher for the Golden Rams on the gridiron, scoring 11 rushing touchdowns. He amassed 1,393 all-purpose yards as well. He carried the ball 22 times for a season-high 193 yards at Edinboro and scored a season-best three rushing TDs against Millersville. He scored a rushing touchdown in four of the team's final six games. Elder was also named All-ECAC and All-PSAC this fall.
 
Gilbert, a preseason All-American, held down the left tackle position along West Chester's offensive line. The Golden Rams' offense ranked fourth in the conference in rushing (2,192 yards) and fifth in passing (3,093 yards). Overall, the offense generated 480.5 yards per game, including nearly five touchdowns per contest. Gilbert was selected as first-team All-PSAC and All-ECAC to cap off his career.
 
Ganzelli, proved to be a problem for opposing teams on the defensive side of the ball this year. He was tied for fourth on the squad in tackles with 44 and forced one fumble. He also recorded 4.5 tackles for loss, two of those were sacks. This season was his second consecutive year receiving All-PSAC honors.
 
Drob, who started in every game this year, was a true workhorse for the Golden rams offensive line this year. He was a key part of an offense that rushed for 2,192 yards and passed for 3,093 yards (top 5 in both categories in the conference). Drob added an All-PSAC first team selection to his resume as well as an All-ECAC plaudit.
 
Malone, finished his career on a high note this year, the safety had three interceptions. He had 21 total tackles and six total passes defensed. He forced a fumble, which he returned for 16 yards. Malone was an All-PSAC and All-ECAC selection this year.
 
Rouse, followed up his freshman season with an impressive sophomore campaign.  He had 15 tackles and two tackles for a loss, one of them was a sack. He intercepted three passes and returned them all for touchdowns. He also broke up four passes, bringing his total passes defensed to seven. Rouse also forced fumble and blocked a kick.  He was the second safety to be awarded both an All-PSAC and All-ECAC selection this year.
