ST. PETERSBURG, Fl. – The women's tennis team was off to work during spring break by defeating host Eckerd College 9-0 Sunday afternoon.
West Chester (5-1) opened the spring session of tennis down in St. Petersburg, Florida as both singles and doubles teams swept their opponents in match play.
Senior duo
Claire Uhle (Blue bell, Pa. / Wissahickon) and
Maddy Shaak (Myerstown, Pa. / Eastern Lebanon County) opened the first match with a 9-7 victory.
Fellow teammates
Rylee Power (Newtown Square, Pa. / Marple Newtown) and
Gracyn Towler (West Chester, Pa. / Unionville) also followed up in the second doubles match with an 8-5 win.
After taking the first two matches, the team of
Sophie Rathmell (Lancaster, Pa. / MCaskey) and
Alyssa Rees (Morgantown, W.V. / University) clinched the set 9-8.
Throughout the singles matches, Uhle controlled both sets in the first match 6-2, 6-1 while Shaak followed in the second match 6-2, 6-4.
Sophomore Rylee Power also clinched the fifth match during singles pairs, winning both sets 7-5, 7-5.
Senior
Abriana Nolan (Honesdale, Pa. / Honesdale) earned a win for the Golden Rams in her singles match, 8-2. Rathmell also won 8-5, while senior
Stephanie Cifarelli (Royersford, Pa. / Spring-Ford) won 8-5 in their singles matches.
West Chester returns to action tomorrow as they travel to St. Augustine, Florida to face Flagler College at 2:30 p.m.
