WEST CHESTER, Pa. - Kristen Vath (Milford, N.J./Delaware Valley) and
Sami Barnett (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) each scored five goals to lead ninth-ranked West Chester to an 18-8 PSAC women's lacrosse victory over visiting Kutztown Wednesday afternoon at Vonnie Gros Field.
West Chester (5-1, 2-1 PSAC) rebounded from its only loss of the season last Saturday while Kutztown (5-3, 1-3) has now lost three of its last four.
Vath, who entered the game with six goals on the season, nearly matched that in one afternoon. She sparked a pair of rallies in each half that helped the visitors push their lead to double digits. Vath scored 40 seconds apart in the first half as West Chester improved its lead to 5-1. Those two goals came in handy when Kutztown responded to make it a 5-3 contest. However, that would be as close as the Bears would get the rest of the afternoon.
The Golden Rams went on an 8-0 run that spanned the first and second halves. Vath tallied a pair of goals 19 seconds apart during that spurt which saw West Chester take a 6-4 advantage to 14-4.
Olivia Martin (Havertown, Pa./Haverford) scored four goals off the bench for West Chester.
Ashley Pyle (Springfield, Pa./Garnet Valley) tallied three times and added an assist.
Nicole Martins (Bethlehem, Pa./Saucon Valley) made five saves to improve to 5-1 in the cage for the Golden Rams.
West Chester hosts second-ranked Lindenwood University on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Vonnie Gros Field.
