LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Teammates Sami Barnett (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) and Olivia Martin (Havertown, Pa./Haverford) contributed three points apiece. However, a late first-half push by No. 19 Lock Haven held off No. 11 West Chester, 13-12.
West Chester (8-3, 5-2 PSAC) started out strong as three Golden Rams found the goal. Barnett, Kristen Vath (Milford, N.J./Delaware Valley), and Dina CIfelli (Robbinsville, N.J./Notre Dame) all scored within the first six minutes. However, the Lady Eagles answered back with three goal of their own to tie the game with 21:25 left.
Lock Haven (7-5, 4-3 PSAC) regained the lead as Shannon Bissnette scored her 17th goal of the season. Emily Brunie scored two goals within the next four minutes to take the lead, 6-4.
It was difficult for the Golden Rams to come back after that deficit. Freshmen Tatum Altman (North Brunwick, N. J./North Brunswick) earned a goal off of a free position with 13:52 left. Lock Haven also found two more goals, before Emily Schulze (Harleysville, Pa./North Penn) scored off of a free position shot as well. The Golden Rams closed the lead by two at the end of the half at 8-6.
During the second half, the Lady Eagles continued their lead by scoring two goals within the first three minutes. An assist by Cifelli would allow Martin to find the goal with 23:19 left. Cifelli also dished a pass to Ashley Pyle (Springfield, Pa./Garnet Valley) as she found the goal to make it a 10-8 game. Lock Haven answered back with two goals of its own as Ashely Gochenaur found two goals within a four minute span to give her 19 goals for the season.Â
With the game at 12-8, with 16:20 left, three Golden Rams found the goal to close the lead to one with 10:18 left at 12-11. A goal by Martin from an assist by Cifelli and back-to-back goals by Barnett closed the game to 12-11.
West Chester will be back in action on Saturday as it host Indiana (Pa.) at 2 p.m.
