NEW CASTLE, Del. – Drew Jarmuz (Kennett Square, Pa./Unionville) went 4-for-5 while
Corey Webb (Easton, Pa./Easton) was 3-for-5 in leading No. 13 West Chester to a 9-5 non-league baseball victory over host Wilmington (Del.) at Wilson Field Tuesday afternoon.

West Chester (31-7) scored three runs in the seventh and two more in the eighth to open up a big lead on Wilmington (27-18). The Wildcats plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the eighth, but could not get any closer.

The Golden Rams opened the seventh with three straight singles to load the bases with nobody out.
Robert Knox (Hatboro, Pa./Upper Moreland) knocked in a run on a fielder's choice ground out to short that put runners at the corners and one out. The Rams' next run scored on a balk, and two batters later,
Jared Melone (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) hit a double down the right field line to score the third and final run of the frame.

In the eighth, Jarmuz led off the inning with a triple, and two batters later,
Joe Sheeran (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) hit a two-run homer.

West Chester fell behind by one run on two separate occasions and came back to tie the game. An unearned run in the third made it 1-1 while a RBI single by
Nick Ward (Unionville, Pa./Unionville) knotted things up at 2-apiece. The Golden Rams then scored a pair of runs in the fifth when
Nick Bateman (Aston, Pa./Malvern) singled in a run, and Knox was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

Tim Edwards (Hershey, Pa./Hershey) started and picked up the win to improve to 2-1 on the year. He lasted five innings, giving up three runs – only one earned – on five hits. He walked one and struck out four. Lefty Michael Dietz (Avon Grove, Pa./Avon Grove) came on in relief and went 2.2 innings. He surrendered a pair of runs on three hits while walking two and striking out two. Right-hander
Joe Kinee (Philadelphia, Pa./Neumann-Goretti) closed out the game with 1.1 scoreless innings. He scattered two hits, walked one and struck out one.

West Chester got nine runs on 16 hits off eight different Wilmington pitchers. The Wildcats got five runs on 10 hits of three Golden Rams' hurlers.

West Chester returns to Serpico Stadium on Friday afternoon for its final regular-season home game – a PSAC East doubleheader against Lock Haven beginning at 1 p.m. The two teams will finish up their four-game weekend series to close out the regular-season slate on Saturday at Lock Haven.
