Women's Tennis Closes out the Fall With 6-1 Win Over Edinboro

EDINBORO, Pa. – Coming off a 5-2 defeat against Mercyhurst yesterday, the West Chester University women's tennis team notched their first win of the fall on Saturday, defeating fellow Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) representative Edinboro University 6-1 in Edinboro.
 
MATCH RUNDOWN
  • Saturday marked the second-straight match for the Golden Rams (1-1) coming off yesterday's defeat in Erie, while Edinboro was taking to the court as a team for first time this season.
DOUBLES
  • At third position, the WCU sophomore duo Shannon Nixon (WYNCOTE, PA./CHELTENHAM) and Julia Mowrey (BETHLEHEM, PA./NOTRE DAME) got the first point of the afternoon by default after the host Fighting Scots did not field a tandem at the position.
  • Up 1-0 following the default victory, the Golden Rams secured the doubles point for the match following a convincing 6-1 win for freshman Danisa Erriad (JAKARTA, INDONESIA/ES INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL) and sophomore Leandra Roelker (ALLENTOWN, PA./SALISBURY) at second flight.
SINGLES
  • The Golden Rams were dominant in singles action, claiming five of the six possible matches against Edinboro.
  • Senior Sofia Von Der Heyde (EXTON, PA./GREAT VALLEY) got the first singles W for the Golden Rams at sixth position by default, before Roelker grabbed fourth flight 6-1, 6-0 over Mary-Kay Masiker and Mowrey snagged fifth position 6-1, 6-1 from Payton Tomasko.
  • Both senior Rylee Power (NEWTOWN SQUARE, PA/MARPLE NEWTOWN) and Erriad earned their second singles victories of the weekend on Saturday, as Power took down Laura Lopez 6-1, 6-3 at the No. 1 spot and Erriad handled Jelena Vucenovic 6-1, 6-2 at position three.
UP NEXT
  • The Golden Rams will have the remainder of 2018 off from competition, not returning to the court until March 9 against Webber University in Babson Park, Florida.
