INDIANA, Pa.- The West Chester University women's basketball team (4-7, 0-4 PSAC) took to the road on Tuesday night to square off against the No. 2 team in Division II in the Indiana (Pa.) (IUP) Crimson Hawks (9-0, 4-0 PSAC). The Golden Rams battled throughout the game but the Crimson Hawks proved to be too much in the 87-69 loss.

The Basics:
Final Score: #2 Indiana (Pa.) (IUP) 87 West Chester 69
Records: West Chester (4-7, 0-4 PSAC) IUP (9-0, 4-0 PSAC)
Location: Kovalchick Complex-Indiana, Pa.

How it Happened:
  • In the first quarter, IUP opened the scoring with a 4-0 run before a pair of Destiny Jefferson (Scranton, Pa./West Scranton) free throws cut the deficit to 4-2. Unfortunately, this was as close as the Golden Rams would get as the Crimson Hawks went on a 24-11 run to close the first quarter with a commanding 28-13 lead.
  • In the second quarter, West Chester opened the period on a 6-2 run to cut the deficit to 30-19 with slightly over eight minutes to play in the first half. However, this hot start failed to last as following the media timeout with 4:33 remaining in the first half, the Golden Rams shot just 1-for-8 from the field to head to the half trailing the Crimson Hawks 44-25. Jefferson ended the first half as the Golden Rams leading scorer and the only Golden Ram in double-figures with 11 points.
  • West Chester had a strong third quarter that saw the Golden Rams outscore their hosts 24-21, however, IUP still managed to hold a commanding 65-49 lead heading to the fourth.
  • The two sides traded buckets for much of the fourth quarter as IUP outscored West Chester by just two (22-20) in the final stanza to record the 87-69 victory over the Golden Rams.
Golden Ram Rundown:
  • Jefferson led four Golden Rams in double-figures with 22 points on 7-of-16 shooting while also tying the team-high for assists with five.
  • Madison Torresin (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) set a new season-high with 14 points of her own while also registering a team-high six rebounds.  Gabrielle Troisi (Norristown, Pa./Pope John Paul II) and Zhane Snow (Wilmington, Del./Concord) also broke into double-figures scoring 12 points and 10 points, respectively.
  • As a team, West Chester shot 46 % (27-for-59) from the field while also shooting 26 % (6-for-23) from three-point range. West Chester also shot 60 % (9-of-15) from the charity stripe in the loss.
  • West Chester also ended the game with a narrow 23-18 advantage in points off the bench thanks in large part to the 14 point performance from Torresin.
Crimson Hawk Breakdown:
  • Carolyn Appleby was the Crimson Hawks leading scorer once again pouring in 23 points while Brittany Robinson registered 22 points of her own.
  • Natalie Myers was the lone other Crimson Hawk in double-figures as she ended the contest with a double-double scoring 12 points while also coming away with 12 rebounds.
  • As a team, IUP shot 46 % (32-of-69) from the field while also shooting 40 % (6-for-15) from beyond the arc. The Crimson Hawks also shot very well from the charity stripe shooting 85 % (17-of-20) from the line in the victory.
  • IUP also ended the contest with a plus-10 (40-30) advantage in rebounds,  which led to a 15-7 edge in second-chance points for the Crimson Hawks. IUP also ended the contest with a plus-four edge in turnovers as they forced West Chester into 14 turnovers while committing just 10 in the victory. This 14-10 edge in turnovers also led to an 18-8 advantage in points off turnovers for the hosts in the victory.
