INDIANAPOLIS, In. - After being tabbed 23rd in yesterday's National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC)/NCAA DII poll, the West Chester University men's basketball team found itself at No. 4 in the initial NCAA DII Men's Basketball Atlantic Region rankings, as announced by the NCAA Division II Championships committee on Wednesday afternoon.
Touting a 22-1 overall record, West Liberty grabbed the top spot in Wednesday's release, with Virginia State (19-3) and Shippensburg (17-4) rounding out the top three positions. Six schools from the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) landed inside the top 10 of the region, with the PSAC Eastern Division leading the way with four selections.
Wednesday's regional poll is the first of three that the NCAA will release over the next two weeks, with the other two standings scheduled to be unveiled on February 21 and February 28. These regional rankings will be key in determining postseason participation, as the top eight teams from each of the eight regions will square off against one another, with the winner of each regional tournament earning a spot in the Men's Elite Eight.
The Golden Rams (19-4, 15-4 PSAC) welcome Lock Haven to the Hollinger Field House tonight for a game scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m. West Chester is riding a four-game winning streak heading into tonight's outing and WCU currently sits atop the PSAC Eastern Division by a single game following a loss by Shippensburg on Monday night.
