Final Standings
HARRISBURG, Pa. – For the third time in the last four years, the Pennsylvania State Athletic conference (PSAC) recognized West Chester University as the best overall athletic program in the league by giving WCU the 2017-18 Dixon Trophy.
This year marks the 23rd time the PSAC has recognized a Dixon Trophy recipient, given annually to the institution that accumulates the top score based on results of conference playoffs and/or regular-season records. The trophy is named in honor of F. Eugene Dixon, Jr., former chairman of the Board of Governors of Pennsylvania's State System of Higher Education.
The award is given to the program which generates the top average point value among each PSAC Championship sport it sponsors. Each sport champion earns 18 points - based on the league's membership total - and descending point values are awarded for respective placement.
Boasting four conference titles in 2017-18, the Golden Rams amassed a conference record 13.75 overall average score in the Dixon Trophy standings to take the top spot over No. 2 Indiana (Pa.) by an impressive 1.88 total points. West Chester's 13.75 average in 2017-18 now stands as the most ever scored by a conference representative in the rankings and the Golden Rams' 1.88 margin over the rest of the field is largest in the program's 23 year history.
WCU claimed team titles in women's lacrosse, men's and women's swimming and field hockey 2018. The Golden Rams appeared in the PSAC title game in football and softball while finishing second as a team in women's golf.
Shippensburg University's eight Dixon awards are the most of any school in PSAC, while Tuesday's award gave West Chester four total trophies to push the Golden Rams past Bloomsburg and Lock Haven to No. 2 on the conference's all-time leader board.
