WEST CHESTER, PA – West Chester University and Director of Athletics,
Terry Beattie, announced the promotion of five individuals within the athletics department recently. Four assistant coaches have been moved up to Associate Head Coach status while the position of Director of External Operations was filled by the department's Operations Manager.
Assistant coaches, Sue Burmester, Allison Hostetter, Kelsi Lykens and Ben Kay were all promoted to the new title of Associate Head Coach. Meanwhile,
Matt McCain, the department's operations manager was promoted to the newly formed position of Director of External Operations this month.
Kay enters his sixth season alongside head coach Damien Blair on the men's basketball coaching staff. Similar to Lykens, Kay is in his second stint as an assistant coach for the Golden Rams, having spent two years as an assistant in 2017 and 2018. He has helped West Chester to at least a share of the PSAC Eastern Division title in three of the last four seasons since returning to Hollinger Fieldhouse.
Burmester is in her 24th season of assisting women's lacrosse head coach Ginny Martino. The Golden Rams' defensive coordinator has mentored 14 All-Americans on defense while helping West Chester to 11 conference titles, 15 NCAA Tournaments and the 2008 Division II National Championship.
Hostetter enters her 12th campaign in the second seat on West Chester University's bench as the top assistant on the women's basketball coaching staff. The 2012 graduate of West Chester University has helped guide her alma mater to five NCAA Atlantic Regional Tournaments, including a Sweet 16 appearance in 2023, and nine conference tournament appearances.
Lykens is in the midst of her first season back at her alma mater working with the field hockey program. She helped West Chester to the 2014 PSAC championship during her first stint as assistant coach to Amy Cohen. Following 12 years coaching at both the Division I and II levels, including two years as an assistant at DI Sacred Heart, seven seasons at DII New Haven where she started the program, and then three years as head coach at Lehigh. Lykens returned last spring to help Cohen and the Golden Rams this fall. She was inducted into the WCU Athletics Hall of Fame in 2024.
McCain is in his 8th year as an administrator in West Chester's athletic department, after spending the last seven years as the Operations Manager. In his new role, he will oversee the Sports Information Department, the operations staff, the equipment room, grounds and the Marketing & Fan Engagement endeavors of the athletics department.
