Complete PSAC Release
LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Continuing its tradition of the academic excellence, West Chester University had a school-record 266 individuals recognized as Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Scholar-Athletes this year, as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon. In order to be eligible for this prestigious group, student-athletes must accumulate a GPA of 3.25 or higher throughout the academic year.
The Golden Rams' 266 individuals were the second most throughout the PSAC behind Mercyhurst University's 308 honorees, while WCU's impressive total was the highest of any of the 14 member institutions that make up the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE).
Overall, the PSAC honored a record 3,053 total scholar-athletes during the 2017-18 academic year – a number that represents 42% of the student-athlete population within the league. The conference has now registered at least a 30% rate for 10 straight years.
Gannon University paced the league this year with 56% of its student-athletes making the list, while Merychurst led the conference for the fourth straight year after totaling 308 honorees in 2017-18.
The PSAC will announce the winners of the Pete Nevins Scholar-Athletes of the Year Awards next week.
