MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - The West Chester University men's soccer team looks to continue its playoff run at the 2019 PSAC Championships when the Golden Rams face PSAC West champion and No. 5-ranked Gannon (16-1) at Pucillo Field on the campus of Millersville University on Friday, November 15th at 5:30 p.m. West Chester is the second-seed out of the PSAC East.
Admission to the games will be $ 10 for adults and $ 5 for students from non-PSAC institutions with students who possess valid, current ID from a PSAC Member Institution being eligible for free admission.
The Golden Rams (14-3-1) defeated the East Stroudsburg Warriors 2-0 on Tuesday in the PSAC Quarterfinals.
Brett Miller (Washington Crossing, Pa./Council Rock North) scored one goal and picked up an assist to lead West Chester over East Stroudsburg. Goitia scored the first goal for West Chester in first half off a free kick from Miller. Miller then scored in the second half, bending a corner kick into the back of the net.
Gannon University has had a stellar 2019 season, going 16-1 on the season. Their only loss came on October 5th in a 1-0 loss to California (Pa.). The Golden Knights have scored a PSAC-leading 56 goals while allowing only 11 goals, the fewest in the PSAC. The Golden Knights are led offensively by junior Alex Lee Yaw, who leads the team in both goals and assists, with 11 goals and eight assists on the season.
On Saturday, Gannon defeated Slippery Rock 4-0 to end their regular season on a 10-game winning streak. Sergio Del Castillo scored two goals for the Golden Knights, while Lennox Crews and Joe Knox tallied a goal apiece.
The Golden Rams last played the Golden Knights on Oct. 12, 2018, in a 1-0 win. West Chester is 5-4-1 all-time against Gannon.
Dating back to 2002, West Chester holds a 4-9-3 record in its 15 appearances in the PSAC Tournament. West Chester played for the conference title a year ago, falling in penalty kicks. It was just the team's second appearance (2004) in the championship game since the tournament began in 1969. The Golden Rams have never won a PSAC Tournament championship in their team history. West Chester is making its 15th appearance in the conference semifinals and shows a 2-10-2 record with two setbacks in penalty kicks. Should West Chester advance to the championship on Sunday, the Golden Rams are 0-1-1 with a penalty kick loss as well.
West Chester has had another strong season in 2019, falling just short of the PSAC regular season title. Offensively, West Chester has been led by the joint efforts of juniors
Doug Goitia (Mount Pocono, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) and
Stephen Thompson (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland) and sophomore
Shane Hartey (Runnemede, N.J./Triton Hall). Goitia leads the team with eight goals while adding one assist for a team-leading 17 points on the season. Thompson ranks behind Goitia with 14 points, coming from four goals and his team-leading six assists. Hartey, meanwhile, has tallied six goals this season, five of which came within the last month of the regular season. Defensively, West Chester has had a stellar season, allowing an average of 7.56 shots per game. When teams do manage to get shots off, they have difficulty getting them past freshman goalkeeper
Daniel Good (Exton, Pa./Downingtown East), who has started 17 of 18 games for the Golden Rams. Good has tallied 44 saves this season, allowing an average of 0.84 goals per game, while recording nine shutouts this season.

The winner of this game will advance to the PSAC Championship on Sunday, Nov. 17 where they will face off against the victor of the Millersville vs. Mercyhurst match. The match will be held at tournament host Millersville University, the time is set at 1 p.m.
