Women’s Basketball To Play Mercyhurst In First PSAC Home Game Of Season Saturday

WEST CHESTER, Pa. - West Chester University will welcome Mercyhurst University on Saturday at 1 pm. for the first Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference women's basketball matchup at Hollinger Field House this season.

The Golden Rams have a 3-4 overall record and 1-1 record in PSAC play over the early part of the season while the Lakers are 2-5 and 2-0. West Chester has won five of the last six matchups with Mercyhurst dating back to 2011. The last time these two teams met, WCU won 72-53 on Dec. 9, 2017.

At 14.5 points per game, redshirt senior Alexis Anderson (Allentown, Pa. / Louis E. Dieruff) leads a balanced contingent of seven West Chester players scoring at least 7.9 points on average.

"Our youth-laden team feeds off Alexis' energy on both ends of the floor," fifth-year head coach Kiera Wooden said. "Her stats speak for themselves, all while coming off the bench. But more impressive than her stats is the energy and passion she plays with."

Mercyhurst senior Amber Renz averages 13.6 points per game, which is the top mark for a Lakers offense that is also well rounded.

The Golden Rams haven't played a game since November 24, when they beat PSAC opponent Clarion University 78-74.

Wooden will lead her team on Saturday with a 97-55 career record as a college head coach, all at West Chester.
