Golden Rams Battle, Improve To 9-0 For Fifth Straight Year

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - West Chester University volleyball has won its first nine matches for the fifth year in a row after completing the Millersville Tournament with a 4-0 record.
 
Chestnut Hill and Virginia Union tested the Golden Rams on Saturday as the first match went five sets and the second involved a set that ended 29-27.
 
Match One: West Chester 3, Chestnut Hill 2 (19-25, 25-21, 23-25, 25-23, 15-7)
 
A volleyball score can't get much tighter than this one as each of the first four sets were decided by no more than six.
 
Several Golden Rams tallied season-highs on the stat sheet as sophomore Julie Vreeswyk (Yardley, Pa. / Pennsbury) had 17 kills and freshman Jillian Borgerding (Highland Ranch, Colo. / Highlands Rach) had 40 assists.
 
Four West Chester players recorded at least 10 digs: Borgerding had 17, graduate student Shaye Whiteman (Gettysburg, Pa. / Gettysburg) had 20, freshman Ali Miller (Enola, Pa. / Cumberland Valley) had 19 and sophomore Maddy Moore (Newtown, Pa. / Council Rock North) had 10.
 
Throughout the match, West Chester scored 107 points, and Chestnut Hill scored 101.
 
Match Two: West Chester 3, Virginia Union 0 (25-9, 29-27, 25-17)
 
After cruising in the first set, the Golden Rams struggled to put Virginia Union away in the second. However, they got the job done and completed their seventh sweep of the season.
 
Sophomore Grace Whitney (Glenside, Pa. / Abington) had a team-high 13 kills, and freshman Hailey Lewis (Downingtown, Pa. / Downingtown East) had 11.
 
Borgerding played a big part again as she tallied 37 assists.

Whiteman was named Co-All Tournament Most Valuable Player at the conclusion of the tournament. Vreeswyk, Whitney and Borgerding also made the All Tournament Team that was comprised of 14 athletes from six different teams.
 
West Chester will play in one more tournament on Friday and Saturday at East Stroudsburg with matches against Caldwell, Southern Connecticut State, Stonehill and Jefferson.
