Women’s Basketball Is Home Friday, Away Monday To Begin New Year

WEST CHESTER, Pa. - West Chester University women's basketball is off to a 3-7 start this season, but the Golden Rams have a great opportunity to turn things around on Friday at 5:30 p.m. in Hollinger Field House with their first Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East Division matchup of the season against Shepherd University.

Shepherd, in its first year as a PSAC member, is currently 8-3 overall and 2-3 in conference. West Chester and Shepherd have only played each other one time in history, and the Golden Rams won 96-68 on Nov. 15, 2013.

Six of West Chester's seven losses thus far have come by a single-digit point margin. Freshman guard Leah Johnson (Columbus, N.J. / Notre Dame) led the Golden Rams with 20 points in the team's most recent game against Slippery Rock. West Chester lost 78-77 in overtime. It was the second 20-point game of Johnson's young career as she's averaging 11.9 points per game.

After the Shepherd game, West Chester will play on the road for the first time since it beat Clarion University 78-74 on November 24.  The Golden Rams will take on the Fighting Scots of Edinboro University on Monday at 5:30 p.m. at McComb Field House. Edinboro is 4-5 overall and 2-3 in the PSAC as a member of the Western Division.

West Chester and Edinboro met up once last season on Dec. 1, 2018, and the Golden Rams lost 91-72.

Senior Katherine Fisher (Rutledge, Pa. / Strath Haven), redshirt senior Alexis Anderson (Allentown, Pa. / Louis E. Dieruff) and junior Justyn Roberts (Harrisburg, Pa. / C.D. East) join Johnson on the list of four Golden Rams averaging double-digit point totals this season.

Kiera Wooden is three wins away from 100 in her fifth year as a college head coach, all at West Chester.

PARKING MAP - Sharpless Street Garage will be the best option, and it becomes free 90 minutes prior to the women's game set for 5:30 pm. and remains open well after the men's game ends. The men's game begins at 7:30 p.m.
