BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - Redshirt senior guard
Alexis Anderson (Allentown, Pa. / Louis E. Dieruff) scored a career-high 32 points in 22 minutes off the bench to lead West Chester University women's basketball to a 74-64 win at Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East Division opponent Bloomsburg University on Saturday afternoon.
A West Chester women's basketball player has only scored 32-plus points in a game three times over the past 16 seasons. Anderson scored 24 points in the first half of the victory. Throughout the game, Anderson made 11-of-16 field goals, including 5-of-6 three-pointers as well as 5-of-6 free throws. Anderson now leads the team this season at 13.2 points per game. She's scored at least 25 points three times this season. She had only done that once in years prior.
With the score tied at six just 5:08 into Saturday's game, Anderson knocked down a jump shot that sparked a 9-2 Golden Rams run over the next 3:16 of gameplay. West Chester never trailed again despite leading just 63-60 with 6:19 remaining in regulation.
WCU freshman guard
Leah Johnson (Columbus, N.J. / Notre Dame) had game highs in minutes (37) and assists (6) while senior forward
Katherine Fisher (Rutledge, Pa. / Strath Haven) chipped in with 10 points.
The Golden Rams (7-11 overall, 5-8 PSAC) and Huskies (8-9, 5-8) now own identical records in conference play, but the head-to-head tiebreaker has West Chester in sixth place in the East Division with nine games remaining. Six teams from each of the two PSAC divisions advance to the conference playoffs set to begin on March 2.
West Chester's next game is on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. at Millersville University in the Pucillo Gym.
