LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - West Chester ranked tied for second overall and first among Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE) institutions on the 2019-20 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Academic Honor Roll released by the conference Monday.
West Chester landed a school-record 324 student-athletes on the honor roll list, equaling that of Gannon University. Mercyhurst led the way with 407. West Chester's 324 recipients represents 64 percent of the student-athletes at the school, which edged Slippery Rock by one percent.
In order to be eligible, the 2019-20 student-athletes maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 upon completion of the academic year.
The PSAC is proud to announce a new record of scholar-athletes was set, with 3,762 student-athletes from the league's 18 institutions being named to the list during the 2019-20 academic year.The 3,762 scholar-athlete total marks 50% of the student-athlete population. Both of these numbers break previous records of 3,117 and 43% set one year ago. The league has now registered at least a 30% rate for 12 straight years. The total number of honorees has increased each year since the 2006-07 academic year.
Overall, nine institutions produced at least 200 scholar-athletes while nine institutions boasted a rate of 50% or higher.
