Box Score LOCK HAVEN, PA - West Chester University sophomore running back
Ja'Den McKenzie (Morton, Pa./Springfield) was named the PSAC East Offensive Athlete of the Week for the second time in three weeks it was announced Monday morning by the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference.
McKenzie rushed for 135 yards and a touchdown in West Chester's 42-24 win over East Stroudsburg University Saturday. His 72-yard run down to the 1-yard line set up another TD plunge from quarterback
Shane Dooley. McKenzie averaged a first down every time he carried the ball (10.4 yds per rush). He rushed 13 times in the game, helping WCU to a season-best 326 rushing yards in the game.
McKenzie was also named the PSAC Eastern Division offensive athlete of the week two weeks ago following the Golden Rams' win over Bloomsburg.
The sophomore back leads the PSAC in rushing touchdowns with eight while also ranking third in rushing attempts (105) and owning the third-longest run from scrimmage (72 yards vs. ESU). His 79.7 rushing yards per game ranks sixth.
West Chester leads the conference in rushing yards (1,691) average yards rushing per game (241.6), rushing touchdowns (21) and rushing attempts (324) all by considerable margins. McKenzie has been a huge reason for those gaudy rushing numbers.
This coming Saturday, West Chester heads to Shepherdstown, WV., where the Golden Rams will meet the conference's second-leading rushing school. That contest gets under way at 12 p.m.
