KUTZTOWN, PA – High School teammates
Robert Smith (Philadelphia, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) and
Jamil Manigo (Philadelphia, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) poured in 28 and 17 points, respectively, to lead West Chester to a 97-75 victory over Lincoln (Pa.) on the second and final day of the PSAC/CIAA Challenge Saturday inside Keystone Arena.
West Chester (2-0) held Lincoln (1-1) scoreless over a six minute stretch, while closing the first half on a 12-2 run and scoring the first nine points of the second half, as the Golden Rams built themselves a 13-point cushion they would not relinquish.
Matt Dade (Collegeville, Pa./Episcopal Academy) nearly had himself a triple-double, scoring nine points, grabbing 13 rebounds and dishing out eight assists. The rebounds and assists were both career highs.
Lincoln hung around in the first half thanks to some hot hands from beyond the 3-point arc. However, those shots didn't fall for the Lions in the final 20 minutes, and they committed nine turnovers in that span. For the game, West Chester turned 15 Lincoln turnovers into 29 points.
West Chester controlled the glass, outrebounding Lincoln 53-39, and got a 51-point contribution from its bench thanks in large part to Smith's 28. The Golden Rams shot 43.8 percent from the field (32-for-73) and limited the Lions to 37.5 percent (24 of 64).
West Chester continues its season-opening road swing next Sunday afternoon with a trip down I-95 and a date with Wilmington (Del.) at 3 p.m.
