Women's Tennis Clinches PSAC Eastern Division Title With Win Over Lock Haven

Box Score

WEST CHESTER, PA - West Chester University's women's tennis clinched the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Eastern Division title Sunday with its win over Lock Haven University, 7-0.

The Golden Rams move to 7-3 overall and earn the No. 1 seed out of the Eastern Division in the upcoming 2021 PSAC Women's Tennis Tournament. The Purple & Gold finished the regular season with an unblemished 6-0 record. West Chester will have a first-round bye in the playoffs and take on the winner of the No. 2 vs. No. 3 seed out of the East in the semifinals.

With the win, West Chester improved its current conference winning streak to 14 matches, dating back to 2018 and successfully defended its division crown from 2019. It marks the fifth Eastern Division title in the last six years for head coach Tina Tharp and her ladies. West Chester has dominated the East over that span, showing a 32-1 record against Eastern Division opponents.

West Chester's win over Lock Haven also marked the first meeting between the two schools on the tennis courts. Lock Haven added women's tennis as a varsity sport in 2019-20, but the two schools did not meet before the athletics season was shut down due to the pandemic.
