Carozza and Durkin Keep WCU Second After Day 2; Altland Wins 1m Dive

Day 2 Results

GAMBIER, OHIO – Ann Carozza (West Chester, Pa./East) and Keeley Durkin (Brookhaven, Pa./Sun Valley) each won an individual event and helped the 800-yard freestyle relay take first place on the second day of competition at the Total Performance Mid-Season Invitational inside the James A. Steen Aquatics Center on the campus of Kenyon College Friday.
 
Sophomore Evie Altland (Middletown, Pa./Lancaster Country Day) opened up the diving portion of the meet with a first-place showing off the 1-meter springboard. She posted a score of 372.075. Teammate Zoe Gillen (York, Pa./Dallastown) was third with a score of 322.275.
 
West Chester cracked 1,000 points to remain in second place behind host Kenyon, which has 1,830.5 points. Carnegie Mellon is third with 895 and Hope College fourth with 711 points. SUNY-Geneseo is fifth with 437.5 while Milligan University took over sixth place with 310 points and John Carroll fell into seventh with 248.
 
Carozza won the 100 butterfly in a time of 52.52 seconds. Teammate Isabella Kil (Enola, Pa./East Pennsboro) was sixth in 56.64 seconds. Mallory Pardoe (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport Area) placed ninth in 57.80. Durkin was first in the 800 free, touching the wall in 1:50.54. Carozza and Durkin made up half of the 200 medley relay team that won the event, but hit an NCAA 'B' cut time. McKenzie Hemingway (Chestertown, Md./Queen Anne's County) and Mikayla Niness (Spring City, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) was the other half.
 
Hemingway placed second in the 100 breaststroke and Maddy Koehle (State College, Pa./State College Area) was eighth. West Chester's 200 medley relay was runner-up to lead off the finals session in the evening. However, the foursome of Lila DiCarlo (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Trinity), Hemingway, Carozza and Niness hit an NCAA 'B' time. All four of West Chester's relay teams have qualified provisionally for the NCAA Tournament next March.
 
Day Three of the Total Performance Mid-Season Invitational gets under way Saturday morning at 10 a.m.
