West Chester Claims First In Home Quad Meet

WEST CHESTER, PA – West Chester turned in its second-highest score of the season on the floor exercise in the final rotation to move past Gymnastics East rival Brown University and claim first place in the Golden Rams' quad meet inside Sturzebecker Health Science Center Saturday afternoon.
 
Graduate student, Jessica Meakim (Downingtown, Pa.) put an exclamation point on the floor with a 9.900 that won her first place in that event and secured the win for West Chester. The Golden Rams finished the meet with a 193.100, marking its second straight week above 193. Brown was second with a team score of 192.875 while SUNY-Cortland placed third with a 182.800 and a short-handed University of Bridgeport squad was fourth with a 172.600.
 
On the floor, Meakim's teammate McKenna Kissinger (Chambersburg, Pa.) posted a new personal best of 9.875 to take second place. In all, West Chester scored a 48.925, which was second only to the Golden Rams' performance on the floor two weeks ago at Cornell.
 
Freshman Natalie Marshall (Bolton, Mass.) won the balance beam for the second time this year, posting a career-best score of 9.825. Bridgeport's Nicole Javinett tied Marshall for first place on the beam. Sophomore Lily McFarland (Baltimore Md.) was third with a 9.8. Hyla Betts (Shannock, R.I.) tied for sixth hitting a new personal best of 9.75.
 
West Chester's 48.45 team score on the uneven bars signified a new season high. Meakim led the way with a 9.825 that placed her second individually. Freshman Jordan Coleman (Bowie, Md.) was fourth with a 9.7 and Betts was fifth with a 9.675. Fellow freshman Kristina Rodriguez (Cincinnati, Ohio) tied for sixth with a 9.65.
 
Meakim was the high score for West Chester on the vault, placing in a tie for third with Bridgeport's Joanna Chambers. Each gymnast scored a 9.7. Meakim finished the meet with an all-around score of 38.625, edging out Bridgeport's Kiana Session in that category by .025.
 
West Chester concludes its three-meet homestand next Saturday with a dual against Gymnastics East Conference (GEC) foe William & Mary inside the Sturzebecker Health Science Center at 1 p.m.
