SHIPPENSBURG, Pa.- The West Chester men's track and field team returned to action on Wednesday evening at the Shippensburg midweek Invitational ahead of a busy weekend of competition, which will see the Golden Rams travel to two different meets on Saturday in the All-American Meet at East Stroudsburg and the Legacy Meet at Morgan State.
In the 100,
Amarre Mayo (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) led a litany of Golden Rams in the top-10 with a fifth place finish in 11.19 seconds, which was a new personal-best time for him.
Tyrese Reid (Pennsburg, Pa./Upper Perkiomen), Terrence Gainer (West Chester, Pa./Downingtown West), and Nick Page (Laurel, Md./Our Lady of Good Counsel) joined Mayo in the top-10 as Reid was sixth in 11.21 followed by Gainer in eighth in 11.23 and Page in ninth in 11.27 while
Will Rivers (Manheim, Pa./Manheim Central) narrowly missed a top-10 of his own, finishing 11
th in 11.35 seconds. Reid, Gainer, Page and Rivers all managed new personal-best times in this event.
In the 200, Gainer and Mayo eached registered top-10 finishes as Gainer was third in 22.69 while Mayo was sixth in 22.84. Gainer's time was good enough to set a new PR while falling just short of a PSAC Qualifying time.
In the 400,
Zahir Madyun (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) was second in 50.46 seconds, which served as a PSAC qualifying time for him.
Cole Smith (Chester Springs, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) led the way for West Chester in the 800, finishing eighth in a time of 2 minute and 01.59 seconds, which set a new PR for him by over three seconds
Philip Smith also turned in a strong distance performance, finishing second in the 3k with a new personal-best time of 8:51.19.
The 4x100 relay squad finished second with a time of 49.16 seconds.
In the pole vault,
Andrew Bosche (Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) turned in a strong effort, finishing third with a mark of 13 feet 9 ¼ inches.
In the long jump, Rivers led the way with a second-place finish with a mark of 22-7 ¼, which served as a PSAC qualifying mark and a new personal-best. Madyun finished seventh in this event with a mark of 21-2, which narrowly missed being a PSAC qualifying mark as well.
Xander Squire (Upper Chichester, Pa./Chichester) and
Zyon Terry (Birdsboro, Pa./Twin Valley) each registered top-10 finishes in the triple jump as Squire finished fifth with a mark of 40-10 ¼ while Terry was sixth with a mark of 40-9 ¾ to lead the way for West Chester in this event.
In the discus,
Thomas Smith (Wallingford, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) was 11
th with a mark of 106-2, which was a new personal-best mark for him in this event as well.
Geraldo Medina (Willow Street, Pa./J.P. McCaskey) led the way for West Chester in the hammer throw with a mark of 151-0, which set a new personal-best and served as a PSAC qualifying mark for the senior. This mark also currently stands as the fourth-best mark in program history.
Jose Rivera (Ashley, Pa./E.L. Myers) and
Anthony Futrick (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson) finished fourth and fifth in the javelin with marks of 168-11 and 166-8, respectively, with Rivera's mark serving as a new personal best for him.
