WEST CHESTER, PA – West Chester University junior linebacker
Jackson Taylor (Glenside, Pa./Abington) was named to the Division II second team All-America defense in Lindy's Sports preseason football preview magazine this spring.
Taylor, who was named honorable mention All-America last fall by
Don Hansen Football Gazette, returns for his third season as the Golden Rams' middle linebacker. He led West Chester and the PSAC Eastern Division in tackles a year ago with 98 total tackles (59UA, 39A). His 59 solo tackles also led the team and the Eastern Division.
Taylor posted 10.5 tackles for a loss and 3.5 sacks, recovered one fumble, intercepted two passes and notched four QB hurries and one pass breakup. He reached double figures in tackles five times (Edinboro, Shippensburg, East Stroudsburg, Lock Haven, Kutztown) and recorded a season-high 16 stops against Kutztown. He had a season-high 11 solo tackles in that game.
The junior is coming off a year in which he was named PSAC East Defensive Player of the Year, first team All-PSAC East, second team All-D2CCA Super Region 1 and included on D2Football.com's Elite 100 list. He led West Chester to a 6-5 finish (4-3 PSAC East) a year ago.
West Chester opens its 2022 slate at home against Bentley on Friday, Sept. 2 at 7 p.m. inside John A. Farrell Stadium.
