Men's Swimming and Diving Third After Day One of Total Performance Invitational

The West Chester University men's swimming and diving squad returned to action on Thursday for the first day of the Total Performance Invitational inside the James A. Steen Aquatics Center on the campus of Kenyon College on Thursday night.

The mid-season meet is modeled after the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships, with a prelim round in the morning, followed by finals at night. West Chester is in third place in the team standings with a score of 409.5, trailing Carnegie Mellon in second with 427 points, while Kenyon leads with 569.5 points to its credit. Case Western Reserve is fourth with 201 points, followed by Hope College in fifth with 186.

The 200-free relay squad of Devin Metzger (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus), Joel Dunnigan (York, Pa./Dallastown), Dalton Fink (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts), and Nolan Benner (Green Lane, Pa./Boyertown) started things off for West Chester with a third-place finish in a time of 1 minute and 20.63 seconds. The foursome of Jude Blumhardt (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Lower Moreland), Brey Wright (Georgetown, Del./Sussex Central), Chadd Corson (Wernersville, Pa./Wilson), and Ben Desclous (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) also competed in this event, finishing 10th in a time of 1:24.45.

Danny Dunigan (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) and Paul Demesy (Saint-Ulrich, France) captured the top two spots in the 500 free, finishing in 4:25.66 and 4:26.10, respectively.  This effort also served as a NCAA "B" Cut time for both swimmers.

Desclous and Kolos Nagy (Szazhalombatta, Hungary) each picked up top-three finishes in the 200 IM, touching the wall in 1:49.13 and 1:50.60, respectively.

Metzger was the Golden Rams top finisher in the 50 free, finishing sixth in 20.46 seconds, while Fink was 11th in 20.53 seconds.

The foursome of Fink, Gabe Laslo (Wind Gap, Pa./Nazareth), Benner, and Metzger wrapped up the first night of action for West Chester in the 400-medley relay, finishing third in a time of 3:17.90.

West Chester returns to action tomorrow for the second day of the Invitational with Prelims beginning at 10:30 a.m. followed by finals at 6 p.m.
