West Chester Women Open Lead After Day 2 at the PSAC Championships

DAY 2 RESULTS

YORK, PA – Two meet records and five more first-place ribbons highlighted the Golden Rams' Thursday evening as West Chester University widened its' lead after the second day of competition at the 2023 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Women's Swimming Championships from the Graham Aquatics Center in York, Pa.
 
The Golden Rams have amassed 790 points midway through the conference meet. Indiana (Pa.) is second with 461 while Bloomsburg is third with 408. Gannon is fourth with 380 points, Clarion is fifth with 345, and Edinboro is sixth with 297 points. Shippensburg is seventh with 256, one point ahead of Millersville in eighth with 255. Kutztown is ninth with 200 points, California (Pa.) is 10th with 167 and East Stroudsburg is 11th with 161. Lock Haven has 61 points to round out the standings.
 
The 200-yard freestyle relay consisting of Mikayla Niness (Spring City, Pa./Owen J. Roberts), Sam Trumble (Dallastown, Pa./Dallastown), Isabella Kil (Enola, Pa./East Pennsboro) and McKenzie Hemingway (Chestertown, Md./Queen Anne's County) set a PSAC meet record finishing in 1 minute, 33.61 seconds to top the old record, also held by West Chester, by just .02 hundredths of a second.
 
Sophia Gerhart (Spring Mills, Pa./Penn Valley Area) defended her title in the 400 individual medley with a personal-best time of 4:23.79. Freshman Lenya Ryan (Wilmington, Del./Mt. Pleasant) placed third in a personal-best time as well of 4:31.44. Madelyn Koehle (State College, Pa./State College Area) put up a personal best in the 'B' Final of the 400 IM. She was 11th overall with a time of 4:39.10.
 
Ann Carozza (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East) defended her title in the 100 butterfly with a meet record. It marked the third time she has won the conference title in the 100 fly. She picked up the 10th individual conference crown of her illustrious career as a result. It was her second individual win of this PSAC Championship meet following her win in the 50 free on Wednesday. Kil, seeded sixth, improved two spots to finish fourth. Mallory Pardoe (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport Area) won the 'B' Final to place ninth overall.
 
Niness and Keeley Durkin (Brookhaven, Pa./Sun Valley) finished first and second, respectively, in the 200 free for the second straight year. Niness defended conference crown by edging her teammate. Trumble and Caitlin Hamill (Collegeville, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) were sixth and seventh, respectively.
 
The 400 medley relay capped Day 2 at the championships with a first-place finish in 3:43.28. Lila DiCarlo (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Trinity), Hemingway, Carozza and Niness made up that foursome.
 
The third day gets under way Friday at 10 am with prelims in the 500 free, 100 backstroke, 100 breaststroke and 200 fly. The finals that evening will take place in those three events plus the 200 medley relay.
