YORK, Pa. – The West Chester women's swimming squad held onto its lead on the team leaderboard to claim its 20th PSAC Swim Championship and its 16th consecutive team title in the conference meets in which they have participated, finishing with 1,670 points for the four-day event
Ann Carozza (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East), who took home four more individual conference titles this week, upping her career total to 12, earned Most Outstanding Women's Swimmer of the Meet honors as she helped West Chester capture its most recent PSAC Championship.
Reigniting their winning streak last season (2022) after not competing in the Championships the year prior (2021) due to COVID-19 concerns, the Golden Rams have now won 16 consecutive team titles in the conference meets in which they have participated.
Keely Durkin (Brookhaven, Pa./Sun Valley) started off the night with an outstanding performance and first-place victory in the 1650-yard freestyle marking a time of 17 minutes 6.68 seconds.
Danielle Stewart (Dover, Del./Caesar Rodney) was not far behind her with a time of 17:16.53 to take second.
Carozza and
Mikayla Niness (Spring City, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) took first and second place, respectively, in the 100 free. Carozza marked a time of 49.48, while Niness finished at 50.63.
Corinne McCall (Archbald, Pa./Scranton Prep) finished fifth (2:07.20), and Stewart finished eighth (2:09.61) for the Golden Rams in the 200 backstroke.
West Chester put four swimmers on the blocks in the 200 breaststroke. Finishing second was
Madelyn Koehle (State College, Pa./State College Area) with a time of 2:18.02, and right behind her in third place was
Lenya Ryan (Wilmington, Del./Mount Pleasant), marking 2:22.00 on the clock.
McKenzie Hemingway (Chestertown, Md./Queen Anne's County) was fifth (2:22.68), and
Isabella Kil (Enola, Pa./East Pennsboro) was sixth (2:23.69).
Wrapping up the meet, the Golden Rams took first place in the 400 free relay swam by Niness, Hemingway,
Samantha Trumble (Dallastown, Pa./Dallastown), and Durkin, marking a time of 3:25.36.
West Chester concluded the meet with a total of 1670 points. Indiana (Pa.) was behind them in second place with 1033 points. Bloomsburg took third with 840 points.
