INDIANAPOLIS, IND. –
Keeley Durkin (Brookhaven, Pa./Sun Valley) picked up an All-America certificate in the 1000-yard freestyle Wednesday evening as West Chester University's women's swimming team continued its progress at the 2023 NCAA Division II Swimming & Diving Championships inside the Indiana Natatorium.
Durkin placed fifth overall registering 14 points for the Golden Rams while establishing a new personal best time of 10 minutes, 2.06 seconds. That was an eight-second drop off her time at the PSAC Championships a few weeks earlier.
Sophia Gerhart (Spring Mills, Pa./Penn Valley Area) was 20th in the 1000 free with a personal best time of 10:14.58.
McKenzie Hemingway (Chestertown, Md./Queen Anne's County) finished 12th in the 200 individual medley, setting a new personal best with a time of 2:02.80. She had lowered her personal best in the morning prelims, placing 13th. However, she knocked more time off that effort in the evening while moving up one spot in the standings.
The 200 medley relay placed seventh with a time of 1:42.07.
Lila DiCarlo (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Trinity), Hemingway,
Ann Carozza (West Chester, Pa./East) and
Samantha Trumble (Dallastown, Pa./Dallastown) made up that foursome that also secured an All-America plaudit for the Golden Rams and another 24 points.
Thursday morning sees prelims in the 100 butterfly, the 400 IM, 200 free and 3-meter diving competitions. The finals in those events will take place at night, along with the 400 medley relay.
