LOCK HAVEN, PA – West Chester University sophomore quarterback,
Cooper Jordan (Downingtown, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) picked up a weekly award by the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) in the first week of the season. Jordan was named the PSAC Eastern Division Offensive Athlete of the Week it was announced Tuesday.
Jordan was instrumental in West Chester's come-from-behind victory on the road at Bentley in Saturday's season opener. He orchestrated a pair of scoring drives that erased a nine-point deficit entering the fourth quarter and pushed the Golden Rams to victory.
It marks the second time in his short career that Jordan has been recognized by the league in its weekly awards. He was also named PSAC East Offensive Athlete of the Week last year after pulling off his first fourth-quarter comeback at East Stroudsburg.
Jordan completed 19 of 27 passes for 292 yards and a touchdown while engineering the second fourth-quarter comeback of his young career. Trailing by six (19-13) with 1:37 left in the game, Jordan took the Golden Rams 74 yards in four plays and ate up just 44 seconds of the game clock in the process. The go-ahead touchdown gave West Chester the lead for the first time in the game en route to a 20-19 win over Bentley on the road. The Golden Rams scored 10 points in the fourth quarter to erase a 19-10 deficit and pull out the win. He completed all five of his pass attempts in the fourth quarter during West Chester's two scoring drives.
On the ground, Jordan was by far the team's leading rusher with 84 yards on 16 carries. A 20-yard scamper on 2nd-and-20 kept alive West Chester's first scoring drive in the second quarter. He finished with 376 total yards of offense in the win.
Jordan leads West Chester out to Slippery Rock next Saturday night for a 6 p.m. kickoff against 15th-ranked The Rock at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.
