Men's Swimming and Diving to Host Delaware on Friday Evening

WEST CHESTER, Pa.- After a strong performance at the Total Performance Invitational at Kenyon College and the TCNJ Diving Invitational at The College of New Jersey the weekend prior to Thanksgiving, the West Chester University men’s swimming and diving team is finishing its preparations for its final meet of 2024 as the Golden Rams welcome Delaware to West Chester on Friday night beginning at 5 p.m.

SWIMMERS RETURN HOME FRIDAY AFTERNOON
West Chester returns home to Graham Natatorium for an in-season swim meet on Friday evening against the University of Delaware.  The Golden Rams look to put in a strong performance against the Blue Hens, who have recently competed in the Bison Invitational at Bucknell University, where they placed second out of seven teams. The Blue Hens are scheduled to swim again at the U.S. Open on December 4th, before heading to West Chester.

West Chester is coming off a pair of good performances at the Total Performance Invitational in Gambier, Ohio before the Thanksgiving holiday break. men finished in second place after the first night of competition between seven teams and finished third overall after the last day of completion. For the divers, Michael Finlaw (Warrington, Pa./C.B. South) won the six-dive, 3-meter event at TCNJ on Saturday with a score of 186.5. Tyler Czeiner (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone) led West Chester on the 11-dive, one-meter board competition with a score of 407.15 to finish fourth. 

THE MEN – LAST TIME OUT

 

West Chester swimmers made a lot happen at their last competition, with many making NCAA ‘B’ cut times. Paul Demesy (Saint Ulrich, France), who won the 500-yard freestyle on the first night of competition, took first place in the 1650 free hitting an NCAA 'B' Cut time of 15 minutes, 20.36 seconds. Danny Dunnigan (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) helped lead a trio of Golden Rams in the top-four of the 200 free with a second-place finish in 1:39.91, which was an NCAA “B” cut time. Kolos Nagy (Szazhalombatta, Hungary) also turned in a runner-up performance in the 400 IM, touching the wall in 3:51.20, with an NCAA “B” time of his own. West Chester also saw Dunnigan finish second in the 500 free with a B time of 4:26.98, while Nagy took second in the 200 IM with a time of 1:46.75, which was yet another B time. On the final day of competition, West Chester saw its 400 free relay squad set a new program record with a time of 2:58.18 as the quartet of Ben Desclous (Hagerstown, Md./Hagerstown), Dunnigan, Devin Metzger (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus), and Nolan Benner (Green Lane, Pa./Boyertown) finished second in the final event of the Invitational.

DEMESY NAMED PSAC ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

Demesy authored two NCAA 'B' Cut times and missed a third by .78 seconds at the Total Performance Invitational at Kenyon College over the weekend. He was responsible for 132 points. Demesy won both the 500-yard freestyle (4:26.65) and the 1650 free (15:20.36). He also placed third in the 200 free (1:40.78) and helped the 200 free relay 'B' team finish fifth (6:47.38).

PREPARING FOR THE BREAK

Friday night will be the Golden Rams last meet of 2024. The team will be back in action on January 22nd vs Penn in the first of two straight at home as the Golden Rams will also welcome NYU to the Borough on January 25 for the final home meet of the 2024-25 season.
