Men's Swimming and Diving Edged by Delaware, 136-107

WEST CHESTER, Pa.- Reigning PSAC Athlete of the Week Paul Demesy (Saint Ulrich, France) captured victories in the 1000 and 500 free to lead the West Chester University men's swimming and diving team (3-1) against Division I foe Delaware on Friday night in West Chester. The Golden Rams performed well on the night, but it was not enough to stun their Division I guests as the Blue Hens escaped West Chester with a 136-107 victory.

"They took advantage of a competition with an excellent team, and they got better tonight," opened head coach Steve Mazurek when asked about the Golden Rams final meet of 2024. " I'm really pleased with our team's confidence and enthusiasm right now.  We still have plenty of work to do, but it's clear that they want to compete at a high level."

West Chester started its evening with a second-place finish in the 200-medley relay as the quartet of Dalton Fink (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts), Nolan Benner (Green Lane, Pa./Boyertown), Brey Wright (Georgetown, Del./Sussex Central), and Joel Dunnigan (York, Pa./Dallastown) found their way to the wall in one minute and 32.44 seconds.

Paul Demesy (Saint Ulrich, France) and Danny Dunnigan (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) took first and second in the 1000 free in times of 9:32.00 and 9:43.71, respectively.

Jacob Texter (West Grove, Pa./Avon Grove) led West Chester in the 200 free with a time of 1:43.66 to finish third, while Aidan Faikish (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) was fourth in 1:44.01.

In the 50 free, Devin Metzger (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus) was the first Golden Ram to the wall, finishing in 20.92 seconds to place second.

Kolos Nagy (Szazhalombatta, Hungary) picked up another top-five finish for West Chester with a third-place finish in the 200 IM in a time of 1:53.59 before Dunnigan picked up the second event win of the night in the 100 butterfly with a time of 51.00 seconds.

Benner and Metzger followed this up with another one, two finish in the 100 free, finishing in times of 45.62 and 45.66 seconds, respectively.

Dalton Fink (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) finished second in the 100 backstroke in 50.75 for yet another top-two finish for the Golden Rams.

Demesy picked up his second event win of the night as he and Dunnigan went one, two in the 500 free as well, finishing in times of 4:38.41 and 4:38.87, respectively.
Kai Hang (Pennsburg, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) finished second in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 57.50 seconds.

West Chester wrapped up its night in the Graham Natatorium with a victory in the 400 free relay as the quartet of Dunnigan, Nagy, Metzger, and Benner touched the wall in 3:03.41 seconds, just an instant ahead of the second-place squad from Delaware, who finished in 3:03.42.

In the diving competition, Boden Burkhart (Walnutport, Pa./Northampton) and Tyler Czeiner (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone) finished third and fourth off the one-meter board with scores of 248.40 and 244.65, respectively. Burkhart and Czeiner also took third and fourth off the three-meter board, finishing with scores of 260.40 and 258.00, respectively.

West Chester will be back in action on January 22nd at home against Penn beginning at 5 p.m.
