LOCK HAVEN, Pa.- The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) released its women's lacrosse weekly awards on Wednesday afternoon. West Chester swept the PSAC East honors as Hannah Stanislawczyk (Mohnton, Pa./Governor Mifflin) was named Athlete of the Week. At the same time, Piper Hammond (Tucson, Az./Southridge) captured Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Stanislawczyk had an excellent start to the 2024 season a week ago, scoring eight goals and adding two assists for 10 points while also being credited with seven draw controls, three caused turnovers, and a pair of ground balls. Stanislawczyk started her week against Jefferson on Wednesday with a five-point (4 goal/1 assist) effort against the Rams, which included the eventual game-winner, while also collecting three draw controls, causing a pair of turnovers, and scooping one ground ball. On Saturday against No. 17 Mercy, Stanislawczyk and company found themselves locked in a good battle throughout the afternoon, but the veteran came through when it mattered most once again, scoring four more goals and adding another assist for five points while also corralling four more draw controls to go along with another ground ball and another caused turnover.
Hammond also had an excellent week to start the 2024 season and begin her tenure as a Golden Ram, wreaking havoc on the defensive end with six caused turnovers and eight ground balls to go along with a draw control, a goal, and a pair of assists. Hammond started the week against Jefferson with a five-ground ball/three-caused turnover performance in a convincing victory over the Rams. On Saturday against No. 17 Mercy, Hammond caused three more turnovers and came away with three more ground balls while also corralling a draw control, providing two assists, and scoring a goal on a free position to open the game.
West Chester returns to action next Thursday at Bentley beginning at 12 p.m.
