Last Time Out

West Chester enters the weekend coming off a 3-1 victory at Goldey-Beacom on Tuesday night. The Golden Rams took the first two sets in short order, winning the first 25-17 and the second 25-20 to take an early 2-0 lead. Goldey-Beacom fought back and was able to steal the third set 25-20 despite a late run by the Golden Rams. 2-1 was as close as the Golden Rams allowed the match to get on Wednesday, racing out to an 18-5 lead early and eventually closing out a 25-16 fourth-set victory to take the match by a 3-1 final. Zoe Haines (York, Pa./York Suburban) had a career night, finishing with a career-high 17 kills, including two to close out the match, while Lacie Brown (Cochranville, Pa./Avon Grove) led the team in assists with 25. Brown also led the team in digs with 11, while Sydney Heffner (Bath, Pa./Northampton) chipped in 10 of her own to help slow Goldey-Beacom.

Road Warriors

After opening its season in Hollinger Field House as it has every year since 2014 when the squad opened its season with a 3-0 win over Notre Dame College (OH) to begin RAMFest, West Chester will be on the road for nearly a month, as the team continues its travels with visits to Dominican on Friday night and Chestnut Hill on Saturday afternoon.

That’s Called a Winning Streak

With a win on Friday night, West Chester will find itself on its first winning streak of the season after going 1-3 at the PSAC East Kickoff Tournament to open the season.

Series History

West Chester holds a 3-0 lead over Dominican in the all-time series and a 9-1 lead over Chestnut Hill, including a win a year ago in Hollinger by a 3-0 final. This victory over Chestnut Hill last year helped West Chester avoid a losing streak against the Griffins as the Golden Rams fell to Chestnut Hill in Sorgenti Arena in 2022.

Scouting Dominican

Dominican will open its 2024 season tonight vs Mercy, looking to build off a 2023 campaign, which saw the team finish the year with a record of 10-21, including a 3-0 loss at the hands of West Chester to open November. Dominican was picked to finish second in the North Division CACC Coaches poll as the Chargers return a substantial amount of talent from last year, including seven seniors and a graduate student libero. Kaitlyn Carr, a senior outside hitter from Arkansas, headlines this group after leading the team in kills with 357, averaging just over three per set a year ago.

Scouting Chestnut Hill

When West Chester visits Chestnut Hill on Saturday afternoon, it will see another team just getting its new season underway, as the Golden Rams will be the Griffin's first opponent of the new season. Chestnut Hill ended last year at .500, posting a mark of 14-14, including a pair of losses to IUP and Rollins in Hollinger during the PSAC East Kickoff Tournament and a mid-October setback against the Golden Rams in Hollinger as well. The Griffins were 11-5 in league action a year ago and were picked to finish fifth in the CACC South this year despite receiving one first-place vote from its fellow coaches.

The Griffins will have a new face at the front of their bench this season as previous assistant coach Brandon Johnson assumed control of the squad in 2024. Despite a new head coach, the Griffins will look similar on the court as they return nine players from a year ago, including their entire offense, headlined by graduate student setter Mia Caporellie. Caporellie is a two-time All-League pick, was the 2022 Setter of the Year, and is the only player in program history to record two 1,000+ assist seasons. Erika Dubosky and Rachel Mace are expected to lead the offense as they did a year ago, finishing the 2023 season with 346 and 329 kills each.
