ATHENS, W.V.- Currently in the midst of an 11-game winning streak, the West Chester University men's basketball team (11-2, 6-0) rose to fifth in the Division II Collegiate Sports Communicators (D2CSC) Atlantic Region poll this week. West Chester, the second-highest PSAC team in the rankings, trailing only No. 2 Gannon, debuted in the top five just before the Holiday Break and climbed further into that group this week after wins over Seton Hill (12/21) and Shepherd (1/6).
After dropping its first two games of the year, including a setback vs regional-number one West Liberty on opening night, the West Chester University men's basketball team has caught fire in recent weeks, rattling off 11 straight wins, including victories over perennial powers California (Pa.) and Indiana (Pa.) in early December in Hollinger.
Currently listed among teams receiving votes in both national polls, West Chester averages 77.2 points per game on 41.7 % shooting from the field, led by a 16.5 point per game scoring average from
Elijah Allen (Dover, Del./Dover) along with 11 and 10.8 per game by
Joshua Walker (Upper Marlboro, Md./Riverdale Baptist) and
Dylan Blair (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West). One of the top rebounding teams in DII, West Chester ranks second in the nation in rebounding, averaging 45.0 rebounds per game, including a DII-best 18.1 offensive rebounds per game.
West Chester is back in action tonight at home against Lock Haven, beginning at 7:30 p.m. Fans attending tonight's game are advised that all West Chester University-owned garages are open for parking free of charge due to the snow.
