LEBANON, Pa.- Patrick Carl (Mount Airy, Md./South Carroll) is tied for second on the individual leaderboard after an even-par opening round to help the West Chester University men's golf team open the PSAC Tournament with a 295, which is good enough for a tie for first heading into the second round on Saturday morning.
Making his PSAC Tournament debut, Carl led West Chester in the first round with an even-par 72 to sit in a tie for second. Carl's round included four birdies as the freshman birdied the par-five third, par-three sixth, par-five seventh, and par-five 13th.
Paul-Arthur Roth (Virginia Beach, Va./Frank W. Cox) joined Carl in the top-10 with a one-over 73 after carding three birdies on the front nine, carding birdies on the par-four fourth, par-four sixth, and par-four ninth.
Evan Jozwiak (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson) and William Hilton (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine Richland) finished the first round tied for 15th at three-over, while Yamato Kimura (Kuwana Mie, Japan/Monteverde Academy) rounded out the Golden Ram lineup in 30th at seven-over with a 79. Jozwiak held a share of the lead early in the second round with an eagle on the par-five third and a birdie on the par-four fourth before adding another birdie on the par-five 13th as he shot an even-par 36 on the back nine.
Jozwiak was one of four players in the field to card a birdie in the opening round as he was joined by Anthony DePietress (CAL), Ben De Castro (IUP), and Kyle Westfall (Gannon). Carl tied for second in the field in birdies, trailing only first-round leader Morgan Dehoff of Shepherd, who carded five birdies in his opening round.
West Chester, who ranked in the top three in the field in scoring average, tying for third in the field in par-three scoring average at 3.40 (+8), second in par-four scoring average at 4.26 (+13), and third in par-five scoring average at 4.65 (-7) sits in a tie for first on the team leaderboard at the end of the opening round, matching Shepherd with 295's.
