West Chester improved to 2-2 overall and 2-1 at home on Sunday with a dominant 64-36 victory over California (Pa.) in Hollinger. West Chester shot 50.9 % (27-of-53) from the field, including a stellar 9-for-11 (81.8 %) in the first quarter, which, along with a career-high 20 points on 9-of-14 shooting from
Lena Stein (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley), was enough to lead West Chester to its second consecutive home victory over the Vulcans. West Chester never trailed in the victory and held a 21-point lead at the halfway mark before stretching the lead to 28 in an impressive non-league win.

Facing the Legend

Shirley is also the longest-tenured Division II women's basketball coach, with 44 years of collegiate head coaching experience. He is tied with Kate Mullen of Wesleyan (Conn.) for second, while Yosinoff is first with 48 years at the helm at Emmanuel.
Youth Movement
West Chester is starting three freshmen in 2025 as
Lena Stein (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley), Jordin Tate (Wilmington, Del./Caravel), and Kimi Sayson (Oceanport, N.J./Shore Regional) all begin their careers as starters for Wooden's Golden Rams. Fellow freshmen
Alivia Mauz (Williamstown, N.J./Williamstown) and Amelia McMichael (Butler, Pa./Butler) are some of the first players off the bench for Wooden this year as well. West Chester has scored 254 points (63.5/G) through its first three games, and the newcomers have accounted for 144 (56.7 %) of that scoring as Sayson led the team with 11 points in her college debut on against Salem before Stein recorded the first double-double of the year with 17 points and 13 rebounds opposite Glenville State. Tate and Sayson scored seven points each in the loss at La Salle. Stein turned in her best single-game effort of the season to date on Sunday against California (Pa.) with a career-high 20 points.
