Men's Swimming Takes Early Lead After First Day of PSAC Championships

The West Chester University men's swimming team took an early lead after the first day of the 2025 PSAC Swimming Championships at the Graham Aquatic Center in York, Pennsylvania. In search of its 37th PSAC Swimming Championship, West Chester won each of the four events of the opening night to finish the night with 225 points and a 101-point lead over Gannon (225-124) in second place in the team standings.

Paul Demesy (Saint Ulrich, France) and Danny Dunigan (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) started the first night of competition with a top-two finish in nine minutes and 4.40 seconds and 9:18.20, respectively. Demesy's time was just two-tenths of a second off of Victor Polyakov's PSAC record time of 9:04.20 from February 2014. Jacob Texter (West Grove, Pa./Avon Grove) and Max Bachman (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) took fifth and sixth in 9:39.08 and 9:41.73, respectively.

Kolos Nagy (Szazhalombatta, Hungary) captured the 200-IM in 1:47.96, while Ben Desclous (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) was third in 1:50.17. Christian Henry (York, Pa./Central York) and Aidan Faikish (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) took sixth and seventh in 1:51.68 and 1:51.90, respectively.

West Chester also took three of the top five spots in the 50 free, led by Devin Metzger (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus) and Nolan Benner (Green Lane, Pa./Boyertown), who finished first and second in 20.30 and 20.41 seconds, respectively. Joel Dunnigan (York, Pa./Dallastown) finished fifth in 20.64 seconds.

West Chester ended its night with a victory in the 800 freestyle relay as the quartet of Nagy, Dunigan, Metzger, and Demesy touched the wall in 6:37.54.

West Chester will be back in action tomorrow with prelims beginning at 10 a.m. and finals at 6 p.m. Prelims will include the 100 butterfly, the 400 IM, and 200 freestyle. The evening session will include the addition of the 200 freestyle relay and 400 medley relay.
