YORK, Pa.- The West Chester University men's swimming team finished off its 37
th PSAC Swimming Championship on Thursday night, finishing with 960 points, winning the title by nearly 400 points.
Today's Championship is the Golden Rams 26
th PSAC Championship in 27 years as the team has won the title every year in which they have competed. The lone exception to this streak came during the COVID-19 Pandemic when the Golden Rams did not compete in the PSAC Championships.
Kolos Nagy (Szazhalombatta, Hungary) was named PSAC Swimmer of the Meet after accounting for 36 points for the Golden Rams, including victories in the 200 and 400 IM and 200 back, while also placing third in the 500 free and helping the 800 free relay team to a first-place finish as well. Nagy is the first male Golden Ram swimmer to earn Swimmer of the Meet honors since Dylan North in 2019.
Gannon took second with 561.5 points followed by Clarion in third with 559.5, Bloomsburg in fourth (394) and Indiana (Pa.) in fifth with 391. Shippensburg, Kutztown, and Edinboro rounded out the field with 184, 132, and 123 points, respectively.
Devin Metzger (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus) won the 100 free in 44.32 seconds, while
Nolan Benner (Green Lane, Pa./Boyertown) was second in 44.92 seconds as West Chester extended its lead early on Thursday evening.
West Chester also captured each of the top three spots and four of the top five spots in the 1650 free, led by
Paul Demesy (Saint Ulrich, France), who touched the wall in 15:14.83, while
Danny Dunigan (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) was second in 15:41.07 and
Jacob Texter (West Grove, Pa./Avon Grove) was third in 16:00.32.
Max Bachman (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) rounded out the top five in fifth with a time of 16:14.85.
Nagy won the 200 back in a PSAC meet record time of 1:47.16, while
Dalton Fink (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) took fourth in 1:51.16, followed by
Chadd Corson (Wernersville, Pa./Wilson) in sixth in 1:53.63.
Kai Hang (Pennsburg, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) led West Chester in the 200 breast, finishing fourth in 2:03.63.
West Chester wrapped up its latest Championship in the 400 freestyle relay as the quartet of
Nolan Benner (Green Lane, Pa./Boyertown), Ben Desclous (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown), Joel Dunnigan (York, Pa./Dallastown), and Metzger touched the wall in 3:00.60.
