West Chester opened its season with a victory on Saturday, rolling past Roberts Wesleyan by a 21-4 final. The Golden Rams found themselves down a pair of goals early but erased this deficit as quickly as it came with an 11-0 run and held a 14-3 lead at the half. West Chester outscored its guests 3-1 in the third and 4-0 in the fourth to roll to the 17-goal victory. Keri Barnett (Glenolden, Pa./Archbishop Carroll) scored a team-best six goals in the victory in her first game back since an injury in the 2024 season opener ended her season a year ago. Kendall Fortune (Jarrettsville, Md./North Harford) added four goals of her own, along with three from Lila McMahon-Skates (West Linn, Ore./West Linn) and two each from Grace Rosica (Dublin, Pa./Pennridge) and Sydney Wasdick (Pottsgrove, Pa./Pottsgrove) as four of nine Golden Rams to score a goal. Hannah Cornelius (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) earned her first victory in goal, making a pair of saves in three-quarters of work, while Morgan Koons (Mountain Top, Pa./Crestwood) made her collegiate debut and made one save in the victory. West Chester ended the game with a 20-8 lead in draw controls and a 27-15 lead in ground balls, while also going 17-for-19 on clears. West Chester also went 7-for-9 on free positions, including a 6-for-6 effort in the first half.
First Timers
Olivia Burkentine (Milton, Del./Cape Henlopen), Avery Roberts (Mantua, N.J./Clearview), and Rosica all scored their first collegiate goals and first goals as Golden Rams in the victory over Roberts Wesleyan on Saturday. Cornelius earned her first victory in goal, while Koons made her collegiate debut, made her first save, and allowed her first goal in her 15 minutes of action in the third quarter.
It’s An Honor
Barnett earned PSAC East Athlete of the Week honors this week as the Golden Rams first weekly award winner of the 2025 season.

After debuting as a consensus No. 5 in the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) and USA Lacrosse Magazine polls last week. West Chester moved into fourth this week after opening its season with a dominant victory over Roberts Wesleyan.

West Chester welcomes back alum Jess Harrison for today’s game as she coaches her first game against her former coach in IWLCA Hall of Famer Ginny Martino this afternoon.
Home Sweet Home
This weekend’s games are the second and third games and home games of the year for West Chester. They are also the second and third home games of an eight-game homestand to open the season for the Golden Rams.

Honoring Rossi
Each week, West Chester bestows the No. 25 practice jersey on a player who, in honor of their former teammate, embodies the work ethic and passion that Golden Ram alum Julia Rossi had for the game. Captain Kendall DiCamillo (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) is the player selected to wear the no. 25 jersey on game day throughout the 2025 season as she works to honor and carry on Julia Rossi's legacy, which West Chester honored with its second annual Julia Rossi tribute game on Saturday vs Roberts Wesleyan. Coincidentally, WCU and Roberts combined to score 25 goals in this game on Saturday afternoon.
Scouting AIC
American International (1-2) enters play on Friday afternoon following a 16-2 road loss at home against Assumption on Tuesday afternoon. The Yellow Jackets fell to the Greyhounds by a 16-2 final after earning their first win of the season and first of head coach Jess Harrison’s career over St. Thomas Aquinas by a 21-20 final on Saturday afternoon.
Against STAC, was led by a pair of 10 point efforts from Jordyn Galgay and Gabrielle Walz as Galgay scored six goals and added four assists on six shots on goal along with five draw controls, while Walz scored four goals along with six assists and led the team in draw controls with nine. On Tuesday against Assumption, AIC hoped to get on a two-game winning streak but found itself down just 41 seconds into the game and trailed 7-0 after the first quarter in the 16-2 setback. Galgay and Walz both scored in the loss, scoring one goal each, while Galgay led the team in draw controls with three. Maggie Closer worked hard in goal, making 12 saves in an attempt to keep her side in the game.
For the year, AIC enters pay averaging 9.00 goals per game while its opponents average 20 per game. Walz and Galgay are first and second on the team in scoring with 13 points and 12 points, each as Galgay leads the team in goals with eight along with four assists, while Walz has seven goals and a team-leading six helpers. The duo are also tied for first on the team in draw controls, while Walz leads in ground balls with seven and caused turnovers with two. In goal, Kloster has played all but 2:39 in goal this season, playing to a record of 1-2 with a 19.96 goals-against average and 34 saves in her sophomore campaign.
