COMPLETE RESULTS - NCAA D2 SWIMMING & DIVING CHAMPIONSHIPS
INDIANAPOLIS- Paul Demesy (Saint Ulrich, France) was the national-runner up in the 1650 free in a conference-record setting time of 15 minutes and 4.21 seconds to help lead the West Chester University men's swimming and diving squad on the final day of the NCAA Division II Swimming and Diving Championships at the DII Winter Championships Festival in Indianapolis on Saturday evening.
Demesy, who touched the wall in 15:04.21, earns his second First Team All-American nod of the weekend after starting off with a conference-record-setting effort in the 1000 free to take fourth on Wednesday evening.
Tonight's second-place finish was continued, steady improvement for the Golden Ram junior as he took fourth in the 1650 free in his rookie campaign in 15:16.22 before finishing third a year ago in 15:11.53.
Following his latest record-setting race, Demesy said, "My first goal going in was to improve my time from last year, and I was able to do a great job of that. I knew Hamlin (Jacob Hamlin of Tampa- 14:51.81) was going to be fast, so I just wanted to stay with him as best I could throughout the race, and I knew that would put me in a good spot."
When asked about a goal for next year after breaking the conference record and improving upon his third-place finish in the event a year ago, Demesy said, "My only goal is to continue to improve and win this event next year."
West Chester broke a pair of PSAC records on Saturday as
Kolos Nagy (Szazhalombatta, Hungary) set a new conference record in the 200 back prelims, touching the wall in 1:46.08, which led to a 20
th-place finish in that prelim.
West Chester finished 20th in the team standings with 46 points on the week, led by 39 points from Demesy thanks in part to his two top-five finishes, and seven more points from Nagy.
