Women's Volleyball Sweeps Tri-Match vs Goldey-Beacom, St. Thomas Aquinas

Box Score WILMINGTON, Del.- Following a long five-set match at Molloy on Friday night, the West Chester University women's volleyball team (6-1) was back in action on Saturday for a tri-match in Delaware against Goldey-Beacom and St. Thomas Aquinas. West Chester appeared no worse for the wear from its five-set battle a night ago, dispatching both Goldey-Beacom and STAC by 3-0 finals to improve to 6-1 on the young season.

Match One: WCU 3 GBC 0 (25-20, 25-18, 25-20)

West Chester bounced back quickly from its five-set loss last night with a dominant first-set victory over Goldey Beacom, defeating the Lightning 25-20 with a .306 hitting percentage and a pair of aces to take an early 1-0 lead in the match.

The Golden Rams battled back from an early deficit in the second set to win 25-18 and take a quick 2-0 lead in the match.

With a quick 2-0 lead, West Chester jumped out to an 8-3 lead in the third set and held off a late-set run by the Lightning to earn a 25-20 victory and a 3-0 win in the match.

Abiah Lane (Ardmore, Pa./Lower Merion) continued her excellent weekend with a match-high 14 kills, while Lacie Brown (Cochranville, Pa./Avon Grove) led the team in assists with 35. Anna Richardson (Smyrna, Del./Smryna) led the team in aces with three and was second in blocks with two, while Elianna Freeman (Jersey Village, Tx./Jersey Village) led the team in digs with 10.

Buoyed by its .306 effort in the first set, West Chester hit .250 (42-13-116) in the three-set victory.

Match Two: WCU 3 STAC 0 (25-15, 25-10, 25-13)

West Chester captured the first set quickly by a 25-15 final to take an early 1-0 lead in the match. The Golden Rams were led by four kills from Lane and three more from Richardson as the team hit an impressive .304 in the first-set victory.

West Chester raced out to an early 13-3 lead in the second set before extending its advantage to 22-7 en route to a 25-10 second-set victory.

The Golden Rams continued to get out to an early lead in the third quarter, jumping ahead 5-2 through the first seven points of the set. The Golden Rams used this early cushion to lead 20-11 late in the set en route to a 25-13 third-set victory and a quick 3-0 match triumph over the Spartans.

Zoe Haines (York, Pa./York Suburban) led West Chester in kills with 11, while Lane chipped in eight more to help the Golden Rams to the dominant victory. CeCe Isenberg (Berwick, Pa./Berwick) led the team in blocks with four, while Haines chipped in three of her own.

Bria Stepp (Cranberry Twp, Pa./Seneca Valley) led the team in aces with three, while Brown led the team in assists once again with 29, along with a team-high 11 digs.

West Chester hit .375 for the match, including a stellar .542 (14-1-24) in the third set, while holding STAC to -.022, including negative performances in each of the first two sets and just one block in the match.
