WEST CHESTER, PA – West Chester freshman gymnast,
Gianna Smith (Pittsburgh, Pa.) was named the newcomer of the week by the Gymnastics East Conference (GEC) it was announced by that organization Wednesday afternoon.
Smith continued her impressive rise with another breakout performance, setting career highs on vault (9.625), uneven bars (9.625), floor (9.675), and in the all-around (38.625). As the meet's lone all-around competitor, Smith placed second on both bars and floor and finished third on beam with a 9.700. Her performances helped lead West Chester to a season-high team score. Smith continues to prove herself as a valuable asset to the Golden Rams.
West Chester will be back in action on Saturday at home against SUNY Cortland on Saturday at 1 p.m. on South Campus inside the Sturzebecker Health Science Center.
