PHILADELPHIA- The West Chester University women's rugby team (1-5) returned to action on Saturday afternoon in Philadelphia against La Salle (4-2), falling to the Division I Explorers by a 73-3 final.
La Salle opened the scoring early, jumping out to a 5-0 lead over the Golden Rams just minutes into the match and stretched its lead to 47-0 late in the first half before
Nina McDowell (Mercersburg, Pa./Mercersburg) scored the final points of the opening half with a penalty kick to trim the deficit to 47-3 heading into the halftime break.
For McDowell, who has become the Golden Rams' leading scorer in recent weeks, she converted her first penalty kick on Saturday afternoon and extended her lead atop the Golden Rams scoring chart to 23 points on the season.
In the second half, West Chester continued to battle, but La Salle tacked on 26 more points and was able to thwart the Golden Ram offense as the Explorers prevailed by a 73-3 final.
