Men's Basketball to Host Bloomsburg on Wednesday in Hollinger

WEST CHESTER, Pa.-After going 1-2 a week ago to conclude a five-game gauntlet of basketball against some of the top teams in the PSAC East, the West Chester University men's basketball team  (17-6, 11-5) returns to action on Wednesday night at home for its only game this week as Bloomsburg (6-16, 3-12) visits Hollinger Field House for a 7:30 tip on Wednesday night.

Last Time Out

West Chester returns to action after an 85-74 loss at Shippensburg on Saturday afternoon. The Golden Rams trailed by 21 late in the first half and by 19  (46-27) at the half after shooting 38.5 % (10-for-26) from the field through the first 20 minutes. West Chester shot 60.7% (17-of-28) from the field in the second half, including four makes from three-point range, which helped trim the deficit to single digits early in the half, but West Chester fell short of its sixth comeback win of the season, losing by an 85-74 final. Anthony McCall (Philadelphia, Pa./ANC) led West Chester in scoring with 18 points on 7-of-17 shooting, while also going 3-for-4 at the line, and was one of four Golden Rams in double figures as Dylan Blair (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West) added 13, along with 11 from Gabe Moss (Pottstown, Pa./The Hill School) and 10 from Jaysean Williams (Bloomfield, Ct./The Patrick School). West Chester shot just 50.0 % (27-of-54) from the field and 42.1 % (8-of-19) from three-point range, while also going 12-for-22 (54.5 %) at the free throw line. Shippensburg shot 54.3 % (25-of-46) from the field and 53.8 % (7-of-13) from three-point range, while also going 28-for-35 (80.0%) at the line as Jaydon Smith led all scorers with 30 points.

Ranked 29th in Division II in scoring, West Chester enters play on Wednesday averaging 86.0 points per game on 48.4 % shooting from the field along with 34.0 % shooting from three-point range, while also shooting 69.9 % at the free throw line. One of the top rebounding teams in Division II, West Chester also holds a 40.0-30.3 (+9.7) lead in rebounding and a +2.5 advantage in turnovers, averaging just 15.3 turnovers per game along with 9.1 steals per game. West Chester ranks fourth in DII in offensive rebounds per game, averaging 15.8, fourth in rebounding margin, 25th in rebounding overall, and 11th in turnovers forced (17.7).   Individually, Ruben Rodriguez Jr. (Reading, Pa./Reading) continues to lead the team in all major categories, averaging 15.0 points, 6.8 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 1.9 steals per game. In 2026, after starting the new year with a career-high 30 points at Indiana (Pa.) (IUP), Rodriguez Jr. is averaging 15.4 points per game through 13 games in 2026 and has scored in double figures 19 times in 23 games. McCall is second in scoring and rebounding, averaging 13.7 points and 4.5 rebounds per game, while Blair is second in assists and steals, averaging 4.1 assists and 1.0 steals per game.

Happening at the Half

At halftime of Wednesday night's game, West Chester Athletics will take part in a Make-A-Wish Wish Reveal as the Golden Rams Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) raised enough funds in the last calendar year to grant a wish to a deserving child and their family once again in 2026.

West Chester's bench is outscoring opponents 684-562 this season, averaging 29.7 points per game, which is third best in the PSAC and 31st nationally. The Golden Ram bench has outscored the opposing bench 15 times in 23 games this season.

Home Sweet Home

Despite a pair of home losses to conclude 2025, West Chester has been remarkably difficult to beat at home in recent years, posting a record of 68-18 (.791) in Hollinger since 2019-20, including a record of 22-4 at home over the last two seasons after an unbeaten regular season at home last Winter.

Series History

Following an 88-55 road win over Bloomsburg to start the season series, the West Chester University men's basketball team will look to improve to 80-79 all-time against Bloomsburg on Wednesday night in Hollinger and win its 11th in a row over the Huskies. West Chester has not lost to Bloomsburg since a 102-89 loss in Bloomsburg in January 2020 and has not fallen to the Huskies in Hollinger Field House since an 86-78 loss in January 2018. Since January 2000, West Chester is 19-7 against Bloomsburg and will look to match its longest winning streak during this time, 11 games (January 2003-January 2010), with a win on Wednesday evening.

Scouting Bloomsburg

Bloomsburg enters play with losses in four of its last five games, including an 82-60 setback in Nelson Field House against East Stroudsburg on February 4, which denied a winning streak after the Huskies had started the week with a 68-67 victory over Lock Haven on February 2. Against ESU, Bloomsburg trailed by 18 at the half and was unable to come back as ESU, led by 13 points from Carson Howard on a perfect 5-for-5 shooting from the field, rolled to the 22-point victory. Gabe Springer and Courtney Davis II led the team in scoring with 12 and 10 points each as Bloomsburg shot 42.3 % (22-of-52) from the field and 1-for-16 (6.3 %) from three-point range, while also shooting 75.0 % (15-of-20) from the free throw line. For the season, Bloomsburg enters play averaging 62.8 points per game on 38.7 % shooting from the field and 31.6 % shooting from beyond the arc, along with a 71.8 % effort at the line. The Huskies trail in rebounding 38.2-33.9 (-4.3) and in turnovers (16.4-12.6), averaging just 6.1 steals per game. Individually, Ries Naugle leads the team in scoring, averaging 11.9 points per game, while George Sabatini leads the team in rebounding, averaging 5.0 rebounds per game. Courtney Davis II is first on the team in assists, averaging 2.1 per game, while Naugle is second in assists, averaging 1.9 per game, and is first in steals, averaging 1.0 per game.

West Chester will be back in action next Wednesday at Shepherd, beginning at 7:30 after a bye this weekend. Following Wednesday night's game, West Chester will have two home games remaining as Lock Haven will visit Hollinger on February 21, and East Stroudsburg will come to town on the 28th for the regular-season finale.
