West Chester's men's program has won each of the last four conference titles and 26 of the last 27 overall with the lone outlier being the 2020-21 championship that the Golden Rams skipped due to the COVID-19 pandemic when the school shut down all intercollegiate competitions for its athletic programs.

Head coach Steve Mazurek has once again assembled a cast of swimmers expected to dominate the distance events, the 200-yard specialty strokes and all five relays. Seniors Paul Demesy (Saint Ulrich, France) and Kolos Nagy (Szazhalombatta, Hungary) will once again lead the way for the Golden Rams.

Demesy will be looking to make it four straight conference crowns in both the 1,000 freestyle and the 1,650 free while looking for a third title in the 500 free. He has been the dominant distance swimmer in the PSAC for the last four years. Only IUP's Luke Mikesell (500 free at 2024 championships) has beaten Demesy in an individual distance event at the conference meet during his college career. Demesy brings eight PSAC titles into this week's conference meet.

Nagy has racked up seven conference crowns during his impressive college run. He is looking to make it four straight in the 400 individual medley while going for three straight in both the 200 IM and the 200 backstroke. Junior Danny Dunigan (Lansdale, PA North Penn), (runner-up to Demesy each of the past two seasons in the 1000 and the 1650, and runner-up twice in the 200 free and once in the 500 free) is also expected to haul in a majority of the points for the Golden Rams.

West Chester is projected to put six swimmers in both the 1000 and 1650 free finals while landing five in the finals of the 400 IM and four in the 200 free, 500 free, 200 back and 200 IM. If those seeds hold up, along with a strong showing in the five relays, the Golden Rams should be well on their way to another team title.

"These meets are won in the mornings," Mazurek said. "We want to be fastest in the morning and loudest in the evening."

The secret to West Chester's decades of success is all in the training sessions. Mazurek switched up his approach this year and went with no rest in the middle of the season leading up to the Total Performance Invitational in Ohio. He feels that the benefits are being witnessed now at the end of the year.

"We just completed the best second-half of training we have had," commented Mazurek. "We have had strong returning leadership on both teams and a lot of youthful energy. We rely heavily on communication. That has led to a lot of trust in each other and the team. I think we have a deeper understanding of one another when we get to this point in the season."

Much of that cohesiveness and bonding is attributed to the three captains, Nagy, and juniors Dunigan and (Ryan Lee Camp Hill, Pa./Camp Hill). Lee will swim both individual medleys for the Golden Rams as well as relays. He brings compassion to his role as a leader on this squad. Lee is seeded fourth in the 400 IM heading into the conference meet.
