Women's Basketball to Visit Shippensburg on Saturday Afternoon

SHIPPENSBURG Pa.- Finding itself below .500 for the first time since early November, the West Chester University women's basketball team (10-11, 6-9) enters play on Saturday afternoon looking for a road win over Shippensburg (2-20, 1-14) to get back in the win column and sweep the season series from the Raiders once again in 2026. Opening tip from Heiges Field House is set for 1 p.m.

West Chester enters play on Saturday looking to halt a two-game losing streak after falling to Kutztown on the road on Wednesday night by a 64-52 final. West Chester trailed early but cut the deficit to give at the half and got back to within a basket early in the second half, but was unable to complete the comeback in a 12-point loss. Alivia Mauz (Williamstown, N.J./Williamstown) led West Chester in scoring with 10 points, marking the second game in a row in which the freshman scored in double figures, while Erin Daley (Lafayette Hill, Pa./Plymouth Whitemarsh) led the starting five in scoring with nine points and six rebounds. West Chester shot 32.1 % (17-of-53) from the field in the loss, including a 2-for-11 (18.2 %) effort in the fourth quarter, while also shooting 28.6 % (4-for-14) from three-point range and 63.6 % (14-of-22) from the line.

West Chester dropped to 10-11 on the year on Wednesday night, marking the Golden Rams' first dip below .500 since an 11/18 loss at La Salle, which dropped West Chester to 1-2 on the season. Macie McCracken (North Wildwood, N.J/Wildwood) is second in scoring, averaging 9.2 points per game, followed by Marianna Papazoglou (North Wildwood, N.J./Wildwood Catholic), who averages 8.8 points and 5.2 rebounds per game, ranking second and third, respectively. Ava Mazur (Linwood, N.J/Mainland Regional) and Kimi Sayson (Oceanport, N.J./Shore Regional) are first and second in assists, averaging 2.6 and 2.5. Stein also leads the team in steals, averaging 1.6 per game.

Youth Movement

West Chester has scored 1,327 (63.2/g) in 2025-26, and 721 (54.3 %) of those points have come from the Golden Rams freshman class, as the newcomers average 34.3 points per game, led by Stein's 9.4 points per game.

Series History

West Chester holds a 38-31 lead in the all-time series over Shippensburg after wins in each of the last six meetings, including a 66-51 victory over the Raiders in Hollinger earlier this season. West Chester has not lost to Shippensburg since an 83-70 loss on January 11 in Hollinger, which sparked a 27-game home winning streak.

Scouting Shippensburg

On the heels of its fourth loss in a row against Millersville in overtime on Wednesday night, Shippensburg enters play on Saturday desperate for a win to improve to 3-20 overall and 2-14 in league play. Shippensburg held an 11-9 lead at the first and erased a halftime deficit to hold a slim 38-37 lead heading into the fourth, but fell victim to a fourth-quarter run, which continued into overtime as Millersville held on for a 65-61 victory over the Raiders. Abbie Johns led Shippensburg in scoring with 14 points and seven rebounds, while Melana Eyer scored 13 of her own along with seven rebounds. McKenzie Thomas and Michelle Olak also finished in double figures with 13 and 12 points, respectively. Shippensburg shot 32.0 % (24-of-75) from the field and 38.5 % (5-of-13) from three-point range, while also going 8-for-12 (66.7 %) from the line.

For the season, Shippensburg enters play averaging just 54.5 points per game on 36.4 % shooting from the field and 26.0 % shooting from beyond the arc, while also shooting 64.5 % at the free throw line. The Raiders' opponents average 71.0 points per game on 42.5% shooting from the field and 32.2% from beyond the arc, while also holding a +3.2 rebounding advantage and a +5.8 advantage in the turnover battle.  Individually, Olak leads the team in scoring, averaging 11.4 points per game along with 5.6 rebounds per game. Eyer leads the team in assists, averaging 2.9 helpers along with 10.5 points per game.
