ATHENS, W.V.- Following his second career no-hitter on Saturday night against Frostburg State,
Julian Costa (Mantua, N.J./Clearview) earned his second award of the week as the veteran lefty was named National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Atlantic Region Pitcher of the Week. This honor advances Costa to the National Player of the Week ballot, an honor which he won after his first no-hitter last spring.
Costa started the week with PSAC East Pitcher of the Week honors after a seven-inning gem, which saw him strikeout eight and allow just three walks after carrying a perfect game through the first five innings as he improved to 3-0 on the year, while dropping his ERA and opponents' batting average against to 1.50 and .129, respectively.
Costa is the first Golden Ram pitcher in team history to throw two no-hitters in his career, as he became just the second pitcher in program history to record a no-no last spring, joining Nicholas Frank in 1947 against La Salle as the other Golden Ram pitcher to do so.
West Chester returns to action later today at Saint Joseph's, beginning at 3 p.m., before a weekend series with Gannon in West Chester, beginning on Friday afternoon.
