WEST CHESTER, Pa.- After suffering its first setback in nearly a month on Friday to Jefferson, the West Chester University women's tennis team (8-5, 2-0) is set to return to action early this week with matches on the slate for Tuesday and Wednesday against the University of the District of Columbia and East Stroudsburg beginning at 2 and 3 p.m., respectively.

West Chester went 1-1 across a pair of matches last Thursday and Friday, posting a 7-0 victory over Ursinus on Thursday before falling to Jefferson at home on Friday afternoon. After its second clean sweep of the week against Ursinus on Thursday after doing so for the first time on Tuesday against Shippensburg, West Chester battled Jefferson on South Campus on Friday afternoon. Ashleigh Grooms/Alex Cave (7-5) captured first and second doubles to give WCU an early 1-0 lead in the match. West Chester battled in singles and took two matches to a decisive third set but dropped five of the six singles matches, with Alex Cave (6-2, 4-6, 11-9) earning the lone win at fourth singles in a 5-2 loss.
The Series
Since October 2010, West Chester is 2-3 against UDC with a 4-3 win in the last meeting between the two teams in our Nation's Capital in April 2025. West Chester remains in search of its first home win over UDC since October 2010 when the team prevailed by a 7-2 final.
Against East Stroudsburg, West Chester is 14-4 since 2008 after falling to the Warriors by a 5-1 final last April for the team's first loss to ESU since April 2010. West Chester is 12-1 at home during this span, with the lone home setback being a 6-3 loss on South Campus in April 2009.

Tuesday and Wednesday look to be excellent days for tennis with temperatures in the mid-80s under mostly sunny skies.
Scouting UDC
UDC enters play on Tuesday at 6-8 overall in the midst of a four-match losing streak, which includes setbacks to Wilmington (6-1), St. Thomas Aquinas (5-2), Frostburg State (6-1), and Queens (4-3), with the Firebirds' last victory coming on March 13 at Virginia State. UDC has won only twice in 2026, with a February 28 win over Coppin State (4-3) and a March 13 win over Virginia State (4-3) after starting the year with a record of 4-2.
Scouting ESU
After a resurgent season in 2025, East Stroudsburg seems to have continued its momentum in 2026 as the Warriors are 14-4 overall and 3-0 in league action after wins over Shippensburg (7-0), Kutztown (6-1), and Millersville (6-1) in their last three league matchups.
In singles action, Audrey Conover and Alice Ehrenlechner are 14-6 and 14-3, respectively, while Ariel Keslick and Jenna Kastell are 13-6 and 12-4, with Keslick going 11-3 in second singles action. Lea Stefanovic is 8-13 in singles play, including a mark of 6-11 at first singles. In doubles, Stefanovic and Theresa Bauer are 10-2, including a mark of9-2 in second doubles, while Kelsick and Kastell are 7-5 in doubles, including a mark of 6-5 at first doubles.
