BOYDS, Md.- After going 1-1 on Saturday, including a 12-7 overtime victory over Wheeling to open the Collegiate Rugby 7s Championships at the Maryland SoccerPlex, the West Chester University women's rugby team went 0-2 on Sunday with a 12-0 loss to Queens (N.C.) in the Plate Semifinal to begin the day before falling to New Haven (26-24) in the Seventh-place match a furious second-half comeback effort fell just short. With this result, West Chester finished the weekend eighth in the Women's Premier Cup Division.
Against New Haven in what proved to be the final game of the Tournament for West Chester, the Golden Rams found themselves down 26-10 before storming back with a try by
Addy LaCarrubba (Fairless Hills, Pa./Pennsbury), her second of the match, and another
Olivia Amann (Downingtown, Pa/.Downingtown West), which along with two conversions from
Emma Davies (Kennett Square, Pa./Kennett) cut the lead to two but that was as close as the Golden Rams could get in the loss.
Camryn Snow (Exton, Pa./West Chester East) scored a try in the first half, and LaCarrubba scored another try early in the match for her first of two on the day.
LaCarrubba led West Chester in scoring at the Championships with 10 of the Golden Rams 36 points on two trys, while Davies chipped in six points with three conversions.
Bridget Kowalski (Chester Springs, Pa./Owen J. Roberts), Ashlyn Wissler (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin), Amann, and Snow all scored a try each over the course of the weekend.
This weekend's eighth-place finish is the team's second-highest finish at CRC's, trailing only a seventh-place finish in 2024.
